One Laptop per Child attempts to bridge the "digital divide" between the rich and the poor, especially in third-world countries. In order to accomplish this, OLPC must introduce twenty-first century technology to the poverty-stricken, which can lead to more efficient means of education. Nicholas Negroponte, founder of OLPC, explains that in his opinion, "whatever big problem you can imagine, from world peace to the environment to hunger to poverty, the solution always includes education". The first step to improving education in (...) poverty-stricken countries, according to OLPC, is providing children with an inexpensive yet functional laptop, informally known as the $100 laptop.
